After nearly four months toying with different art styles we have finally locked in the art style for Boom Town Empires city layouts. The new style not only looks pretty but also has a more concise pipeline, meaning it can be produced quicker. That can only be a good thing as we are over four months behind schedule and the game’s scope has increased.
Project Red (pictured above) has been shelved while Boom Town takes front seat in an aim to prepare the game for our first ever crowd funding campaign. We shall hopefully have a playable demo by early September and launch the crowd funding campaign by late September.
Also slightly delayed is the planned DLC for Drones, The Human Condition, which will arrive mid August. The DLC is in two parts and add a soundtrack, remixer pack and extend the ARG some clever gamers may have discovered.
To finish off, here are some of the other failed art styles we explored.
As Drones, The Human Condition has moved into the “updates only” stage, work on Project Red as started again. The game design document is really filling up and the concept behind the game is really taking shape. Here is a screenshot of a mock up level titled “Temple of Giants”.
Drones, The Human Condition has made it through Steam Greenlight. Thank you very much all those that voted, purchased on other platforms and shared on social media. Work on DTHC Steam Edition has already started and will be completed ASAP. Keep an eye out for updates and again, Thank you!
The Chinese Android Market is huge and I will now attempt to release a game in the Chinese region. Right now work has started on changing the needed art assets and slowly translating the text. I will be using Google Translate, possibly the worse idea yet, but budget, time and man power dictate that to be the only viable option. Also it might make for some funny mistakes, for such a small game, I can live with this.
While doing my research I found a recent post stating Chinese officials now require all mobile games to feature only Simplified Chinese, No English at all.
You can follow the progress on this venture here on this website and over on twitter
Code name: Project Red, is side scrolling 2D platformer, with RPG light elements… well maybe. Nothing as yet is set in stone, I am still in the planning, story boarding and concept art stage. The game will be the biggest yet from Blunt Games and will push the GameMaker engine to its limits.
Here is sceenshot of a level currently being developed to test ideas named “The Dark Forest”. No platforms have been confirmed yet, but its safe to say with the graphical level I am attempting to push through game maker, it won’t be on mobile.
Follow me on twitter @Blunt_Games for more updates on Project Red.
Just a quick random concept art dump. There hasn’t been a post for a while, so hopefully this collection of recently created bits of art will fill that void. 🙂
